Merralls is a family-run business specialising in ballroom and latin dancing, run by former dance champions. We are one of the top schools in the country and cater for all grades, from beginners to advanced and from social to competitors.

Our Story

We purchased our first Dance Centre premises in Heswall in 1976 after winning the British Senior Championships in Blackpool in 1973. We turned Professional in 1974 and started our professional careers competing, teaching, demonstrating and lecturing.

When purchasing our first premises we renovated and created a dance studio used purely for dancing purposes. We named it the ‘Crystal Dance Studio’ having bought a Crystal Chandelier for the entrance hall with money we raised from the sale of an old pianola left in the premises, we were broke.

We opened Crystal Dance Studio in 1977 and worked hard building up our clients until in 1996 we decided we had outgrown the Studio and purchased our current Studio which was a very run down old social club. Again restoration, renovating and decorating began and we opened in May 1996. We ran the 2 dance Studio until 2003. By this time daughter Debbie who had previously travelled the world in top class venues on stage as a dancer had joined us full time. We decided as the Apollo was a bigger studio and better facilities and licensed bar, large ballroom space, practise studio and large car park to sell our original studio and put all our knowledge into the Apollo which since 1996 has grown from strength to strength.

The Apollo is purely used for dancing purposes, and floor space is hired from us by people such as Shirley Ballas for their private tuition purposes.
